Thesis proposal

What is it about conspiracies? What is it about the inconceivable that makes otherwise reasonable people believe the most bizarre ideas?  Completely negligent of the amount of information to the contrary, they feel the need to spread these improbable unlikely instances. Humans are incapable of keeping a secret; making conspiracies against the masses difficult to keep. An individual’s secret understanding will eventually be broadcasted; it’s human nature. Subsequently, the audience will continue to pass on this uncensored information and the mass will grow. Whether it be by religious, political or scientific circumstance, all seem to agree that there is a significant probability of a disaster on the Earth, in the relatively near future, a disaster, which would cause the extinction of human life. “Humanity has an obsession with its own destruction.  From countless religions, myths, legends and doomsday predictions, humanity has always been curious about what the Earth would be like without us. Based on the Earth’s past, it almost seems inevitable that natural destruction will occur at some point, and man-made methods of destruction exist as well."
Since doomsday has been a trending topic, I’ve decided to explore, not the destruction but the aftermath of the end of the world. There are several ways in which it may come to an end and all these different views and different audiences have latched onto conspiracies, yet were all together in the end because we are in the dark. The tranquility amidst an end or a new beginning is beautiful. The calm after the storm allows the viewer to both feel the full power and witness the beauty of the silence. These moments are captured in places and moments where no words are needed, just concentrating on the awe of what is in front of you. When consumed in shock and living in the heaviness of the silence, you’re in a vulnerable state in which all your senses can exceed their potential. I feel as if moments like this enhance the experience. Since, we may not be in existence in the near future, I find it incredibly alluring to be able to capture the sensation and adventure the last man on earth would endure.  To bypass the shattering devastation everyone is so dreading and feel the release, the relief, the complete letting go. The slow, deep exhale as you let your eyes close and your shoulders relax.

When creating a piece, I find the conversation you have with the viewer most important. I want the audience to feel something, when they experience my piece. I want to call upon all of the senses at once with an interactive piece. Through the use of design and print, I want the viewer to become consumed into this new world and have access to all the aspects of its environment. This may seem extreme, however my goal is to simply invite the viewer in to see the beauty amidst the destruction and let them leave wanting more. There are those pieces that you look at and instantaneously have an epiphany; and then there are those that evoke a wave of emotions, and you still don’t understand. I want the viewer to see the good and the bad, come to peace with it and then think about how in fact such a horrid happening can be so beautiful. That’s the ideal response, however if they feel other wise, I’ll be happy if they just think about it for a while, without being dismissive of opposition.
